Shuttle Systems MiniCulmination - Olympus

1. A group of astronauts exploring the surface of Mars are facing west when Mission Control asks them to turn right, then about face and then turn left. What direction are the astronauts facing now?

4. Use a Caesar cipher with a shift of 8 to decrypt the following:
UIZA WZ JCAB!

5. Physical Challenge: Using the rubber bands provided and the purple trash can have, set the can on the ground and have each member take one point of the rubber band and stand at least 3 feet from the center of the can. The rubber band must be released simultaneiously by all members of the team and land inside the can. A minimum of 5 teammates must participate in this activity.

6. Solve the following system of equations:
Y = 3x + 5
Y = 4x + 8

7. Successfully complete a NOMINAL FLIGHT on Liftoff

8. Enter the Mars Rover Simulation and obtain a minimum score of 3000 points before quitting.

9. Every astronaut is required to perform 1 minute of vigorous physical exercise. Individual astronauts will be given their turn when directed by Mission Control.

10. You are to build the framework of a structure that will eventually be equipped with airbags to cushion the rovers landing on Mars. This will be a scale model of just the framework with a simulated rover inside.
Guidelines and restrictions:
a. Use only K'nex pieces.
b. Suspend a baseball within your structure. (The baseball represents your rover.)
c. Your structure should have no particular up or down. In other words, it could land on any side without the "rover" moving or falling out.
d. The baseball must never touch the ground, regardless of the way the lander is sitting.
e. When you have completed your lander framework, show it to Mission Control via the web cam.

11. Determine the missing number in the sequence: 1, 2, ?, 5, ?, 13, 21, 34, ?, 89, ?, 233, 610

12. What rhyming pair of words can also mean "an animal dance"?

13. Use the tablecloth to compete a "solar panel flip" with all members of your crew.
